Gait Analysis provides runners with essential information about their running style. This is very important for all types of runners, no matter how long they have been running for. By knowing your running style, you will then be able to select the right shoes.
The Gait Analysis we offer in-store includes video analysis, barefoot static tests and even a wet-foot test. From these different tests, we can work out whether you Over-pronate, Under-pronate or if you are a Neutral runner.
Over-Pronation is characterised by the foot rolling inwards too much during impact, which results in an incorrect spreading of weight on the foot. This can cause added stress on your bones but also your tendons and muscles. It is common for Over-pronators to suffer poor hip and knee alignment.
Under-pronation (or Supination) is characterised by the foot failing to roll inwards enough, often as a result of having high arches. In this instance, excessive weight is distributed on the outside of the foot.
Finally, an athlete with a Neutral running style will strike the ground with the outer heel or mid-section of the foot. In this case, the foot rolls inwards resulting in an even weight distribution across the front part of the foot.
Gait Analysis matches your degree of pronation with the correct shoe type. It involves running for a few minutes on a treadmill while a video of your running style is recorded. We will then slow this footage down and analyse this in detail. Once we have completed the Gait Analysis test, we can then advise you into a variety of different shoes, whether it is being cushioned, structured or supported according to the results.
The Gait Analysis is free of charge if you are buying a pair of shoes in-store, however, there is a charge if you just wish for the Gait Analysis to be completed without buying a pair of shoes.
